Whale sightings. It was a great experience to see these huge creatures up close and personal.

Boston

Walking the beautiful street of Boston.

Everything in Boston is very old. Here is an old cemetery with stones that dated from the 1700's. We saw the tomb of John Hancock and Paul Revere among others.

Reunion with a good friend

After a day in DC we met a college friend of mine who lives in the area. Phyliss and I haven't seen each other in 40 years. Phyliss has spent most of those 40 years suffering. (a very crippling form of arthritis) Her body bears the scars but I very quickly discovered the friend I knew. Dispite it all she has a sweet spirit and is not embittered by a difficult life. I really enjoyed the time we spent with her and her husband.

Washington DC

We had a great time in Washington DC. Here is a beautiful shot of the capital. We toured the inside of it and it was VERY interesting and beautiful. We walked around DC after that and saw the sights. It was once again about 100 degrees out. That made walking exhausting but we still had a great time.

Here is the home where we crashed each night. (Saturday, Sunday, and Monday). The people that live here are friends of Matt and Unity's. They are gone on vacation and graciously lent us their home. It has been great.
Here was the temperature on the day of our Gettysburg adventure. We drank lots of water and thanked God each time we encountered shade. We did a car tour so thankfully we were in and out of air conditioning.
Larry and I posing with a statue of Abe Lincoln in the town of Gettysburg before our tour of the battlefield.

This was a great trip for Larry and Matt since they are both History lovers. Matt is very knowledgeable and was a great tour guide. I actually love History also, just don't have the understanding that these two do. One of many battlefields we saw.

Larry with a cannon. Cannons were everywhere. Many monuments - Mostly there were in memory of someone or many soldiers that died. Really made you think.

More views from Gettysburg

Enactment of a soldiers campsite. You could even smell their campfire.
One of many monuments. Most of them marked or one or hundreds of men died.

A view of a battle field. You really had to be there to get the feel. It was awesome. I learned so much. Like Larry kept saying we were walking on sacred ground. So many died here.

Leaving for the big trip

The time has come for our long anticipated trip to New York. Here we are all set to leave after getting gas. We left at 6:30 am after a big thunder storm in Chicago.

The rest stops in Ohio are fantastic! They are filled with restaurants.
We however took a cooler full of lunch. Here we are eating it.

Thats all for today. Tomorrow Gettysburg.

Getting to Pennslyvinia

We enjoyed beautiful scenery as we traveled in Pa.
Sorry, same picture twice!

When I wasn't looking at scenery I read or learned to crochet. Thanks Sarah for getting me started). We arrived at our destination about 7p.m. We ate out a a nice little restaurant and then crashed at the home of some friends of Matt and Unity's. (they are actually staying at their house in Chicago, we traded houses for a few days) It is a nice house in a woodsy area. Picture tomorrow.

An Anniversary Celebration in Chicago

Here we are with our four children who hosted an Anniversary Celebration for us in Chicago. We had the party in a room at Dave's Seminary. It was so appropriate because after we got married we lived in Chicago where Larry did youth work. Actually this seminary was not real far from our home. Following are some snaps of our evening. Thanks kids for all your work to make it a special celebration for us. We loved every minute of it and we love you all. Sarah and Kayelyn
